Shuffle Off This Mortal Coil
Review by Magellan | August 31, 1999

Leadfeather offers the Myth II community an extraordinary map with Shuffle Off This Mortal Coil. This map will please all lovers of two-team battles, and it makes for a fine addition to the small canon of high-quality maps set in dark and gloomy environs.

If the game is played on Legendary difficulty, each team receives a Necromancer unit with the power to raise reinforcements.
Sporting ruins, fortifications, and graveyards, Shuffle fuses together features that have made hits out of maps such as the Myth TFL Creep on the Borderlands, Lichen Unto Death, and Myth II's standard Cloudspine pair.

Shuffle's basic layout is similar to Creep, with a formidable wall and a river that each serve to divide the map, as well as intersect with each other in the middle. The wall, however, has ramps and platforms much like the fort walls in Cloudspine. Units can take up position on the tops of these walls, and this feature offers new gameplay possibilities while at the same time not becoming the focus of the game.

Shuffle offers a light and dark mesh, as well as 11 game types. In addition to this variety, if the game is played on Legendary difficulty, each team receives a Necromancer unit with the power to raise reinforcements. This unit is a Deceiver unit, which, when placed in one of the two graveyard pentagrams with 8 minutes or less in the game, will summon reinforcements from that graveyard.

The version I tested with macsteve had a bug in the Stampede! game. The stampede flags can be "captured," which means if you walk on the flags you are supposed to defend, they become your flags and you can then score for stampede units on them. Makes for a very short game. Hopefully this will be fixed in a future version.

All in all, Shuffle Off This Mortal Coil offers variety and playability on an excellent color map. It's an excellent plugin to have handy if you're already a fan of two-team maps like Desert Between Your Ears, Lichen Unto Death, Cracks in the Cloudspine, or Creep on the Borderlands.
