Caer Cadarn
Map review by Phoenix | July 31, 1999

Made by the people from Badlands, Caer Cadarn is a huge two-team map, swamp style.

It must be the swampy gas: Satchels, for some strange reason, are very sensitive on this map. They will ignite and explode on the slightest touch of fire.
There are three meshes: Trow, Dark, and Light. There are two camps that act as starts, one being an outpost and the other being a town. Caer Cadarn has a large river to splash around in, and when you investigate the map closely, it’s the same kind of map as Dead of Winter. There’s a large shallow water field in the southwest corner which is good for melee skirmishes. A middle island for main battles and dense forest throughout the map keep the action realistic.

The terrain is very flammable, so my personal tip is to ignite the flame under your enemies feet and pre-burn the grass you plan on sitting on (i.e, a flag, a ball, etc.). Speaking of balls, there’s plenty of caves lining the southwest edge of the map by the shallow water. Those caves can give you a big advantage in a Steal the Bacon game or the like. You can also hide balls in the large tent at one of the starting points. As for little places of interest, there’s a fisherman and his house in the northeast corner, and near the house is a gravestone.

Satchels, for some strange reason, are very sensitive on this map. They will ignite and explode on the slightest touch of fire. Another tip: satchels are very easy to hide, especially in dense woody areas. They can really help change the tide of a battle.
